Why Ecologic RELIEF?
Constipation is often accompanied by lesser bowel movements. The causes of this are not exactly known but in children with constipation an overgrowth has been shown of pathogenic bacteria like Clostridium sp., E. coli and S. aureus. Because multiple bacterial stains can enhance each others effect, Winclove and the Emma Children's Hospital in Amsterdam developed a mix of bacterial strains, specifically developed against constipation in children. The product, Ecologic® Relief, contains the following strains: Bifidobacterium bifidum, B. infantis, B. longum, L.casei, L. plantarum en L. rhamnosus. These strains were selected on their in vitro ability to inhibit pathogenic bacteria that were found in constipated children and in their ability to increase peristaltic movements.

Is Ecologic® Relief safe?
Yes, the strains in Ecologic® Relief have a long history of safe use in the food industry. They have been used for example for the preparation of salami, beer, yoghurt, cheese and soy. There is no maximum limit for the dosage of probiotics. However, the use of Ecologic® Relief is not recommended for children in the weaning phase. In those cases we advise to contact a doctor first.
How many bacteria are there in Ecologic® Relief?
Ecologic Relief® contains minimally 5 billion (5 x 109) living cells per sachet.
Which bacteria are present Ecologic® Relief?
In Ecologic® Relief you will find six bacterial strains
  • Bifidobacterium (B.) bifidum
  • B. lactis
  • B. longum
  • Lactobacillus (L.) casei
  • L. plantarum 
  • L. rhamnosus.

How to use Ecologic® Relief?
Dissolve the powder in a glass of water, preferably lukewarm. Leave for 10 minutes and stir before intake. Take Ecologic® Relief preferably on an empty stomach, ie. In the morning before breakfast or at night before going to sleep. The product can also be dissolved in milk or fruit juice. Do not mix it in hot drinks or drinks with carbon-dioxide.

How often does a child have to take Ecologic® Relief?
It is advised to take the product daily, 4 grams per day (one measure spoon which is included in the jar).

When to take Ecologic® Relief?
Preferably on an empty stomach, i.e. in the morning before breakfast or at night before going to sleep.

Can Ecologic® Relief be taken if a child is allergic to lactose or gluten?
The product does not contain gluten from wheat, rye, barley or oats. Lactose however is being used in the fermentation media of the bacteria. This means that the product may contain trace elements of lactose. See also the ingredient list for allergens.

Are there other allergens in this product?
Yes, it is recommended that people with an allergy for soy, lactose or corn should not consume this product.

Are the bacteria in Ecologic® Relief genetically modified?
No, the bacteria are not genetically modified. Neither does the product contain other ingredients derived from genetic modification processes.

How long to use Ecologic® Relief?
Ecologic® Relief can be used for a prolonged time; there are no limits. In the study that was performed in the Emma Children’s Hospital in Amsterdam. The product was administered daily during 4 weeks. This resulted in a significant reduction of symptoms.

Can this product also be used for other intestinal problems?
Ecologic® Relief has been specifically designed for and tested in children with constipation. There is no evidence that Ecologic® Relief is effective for other intestinal problems.
