What is AAD?
AAD is the abbreviation for ‘Antibiotic - Associated Diarrhoea: diarrhoea caused by using antibiotics.
How does AAD occur?
Antibiotics are essential for the treatment of numerous illnesses. However, as antibiotics can have a negative impact on healthy gut flora, their use can have undesirable side-effects, such as diarrhoea.
Why use probiotics during and after antibiotic treatment?
Antibiotics can cause an imbalance in the intestines. Probiotics, which contain ‘good’ bacteria, can reduce the risk on an imbalanced microbiota due to the use of antibiotics. They do this e.g. by inhibiting the ‘bad’ bacteria.
Why this product?
The bacteria in Ecologic® AAD were selected for particular properties such as Clostridium inhibition, a ‘bad’ bacteria that often gains the upper hand during antibiotic treatment. From a selection of >100 strains, 10 were eventually selected for this product.Â
Is Ecologic® AAD safe?
Yes, these bacteria have been used for many years in the preparation of many foodstuffs, including salami, beer, yoghurt, cheese and soy.
How many bacteria are there in Ecologic® AAD?
Ecologic® AAD contains >5 billion bacteria per sachet.
Which bacteria are in Ecologic® AAD?
Ecologic® AAD contains 10 different probiotic strains. These are listed in the product description.
What should Ecologic® be dissolved in?
Ecologic® AAD is best dissolved in lukewarm water. Allow to stand for a moment before drinking. Ecologic® AAD can also be dissolved in orange juice, milk or yoghurt. Do not dissolve in hot drinks or in carbonated drinks.
How often should Ecologic® AAD be taken?
The recommended dosage is one sachet twice daily.
When should Ecologic® AAD be taken?
Preferably not less than 3 hours after taking antibiotics and if possible on an empty stomach.
For how long should Ecologic® AAD be taken?
Irrespective of the duration of the antibiotic treatment, Ecologic should be taken for two weeks, starting at the same time as the antibiotic treatment.
Can Ecologic® AAD be taken by someone with a lactose or gluten allergy?
The product does not contain gluten from wheat, rye, barley or oats. However, the product may contain trace elements of lactose, as this is used in the fermentation process. If you are in any doubt, please consult your doctor.
Are there any other allergens in this product?
Yes, people who are allergic to vanilla or corn are advised not to consume this product.
Are the bacteria in Ecologic® AAD genetically modified?
No, the bacteria are not genetically modified.
Can I use Ecologic® AAD during pregnancy?
Probiotics are not known to have any adverse effects on pregnancy. However, it is recommended that you consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Can Ecologic® AAD also be used for other intestinal problems?
No, even though Ecologic AAD is a probiotic and can be used daily, the bacteria have been specially selected to reduce the risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea.
Why should Ecologic® AAD be used under medical supervision?
This product has been registered with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA) for the Commodities Act concerning 'dietary food for medical purposes’. This regulation covers a category of specially processed or compound products for foodstuffs used as dietary food by patients under medical supervision.
